PREDICTION – BEARS BY 14

LONDON IRISH

In the last eight meetings between Bristol Bears and London Irish, neither side has come from behind to win the game after trailing at half-time, and that does not bode well for the visitors.

Irish have trailed at the break in their last there games and in two-thirds of their matches in all competitions this season.

Bristol’s pack is beefed up by the presence of returning skipper Steven Luatua, while the line-breaking ability of half-backs, Tom Whiteley and Ioan Lloyd, centre Semi Radradra and fit-again wing, Ratu Naulago, suggest there should be plenty of tries. on what is forecast to be a nice and crisp winter’s evening.

Recommended bet: Bristol over 29.5 points (8/11, Paddy Power)

Bristol Bears: 15. Henry Purdy, 14. Siva Naulago, 13. Semi Radradra, 12. Piers O’Conor, 11. Alapati Leiua, 10. Ioan Lloyd, 9. Tom Whiteley; 1. Yann Thomas, 2. Harry Thacker, 3. Max Lahiff, 4. Chris Vui, 5. Joe Joyce, 6. Steven Luatua, 7. Sam Jeffries, 8. Fitz Harding

Replacements: 16. Jake Kerr, 17. Jake Woolmore, 18. Ashley Challenger, 19. John Hawkins, 20. Jake Heenan, 21. Theo Strang, 22. Tiff Eden, 23. Antoine Frisch

London Irish: 15 Henry Arundell, 14 James Stokes, 13 Benhard van Rensburg, 12 Terrence Hepetema, 11 Ben Loader, 10 Paddy Jackson, 9 Nick Phipps (c); 1 Will Goodrick-Clarke, 2 Agustin Creevy, 3 Ollie Hoskins, 4 Rob Simmons, 5 Adam Coleman, 6 Olly Cracknell, 7 Juan Martin Gonzalez, 8 Sean O’Brien

PREDICTION – TIGERS BY 7

northampton-saints-logo

NORTHAMPTON SAINTS

Northampton have won on four of their last five visits to Welford Road in all competitions and have come out on top in seven out of the last 10 meetings regardless of the venue. But for most of that period the Tigers were at a low ebb, which is certainly not the case now.

Also, Saints still have the tendency to deliver against lower-ranked opposition but struggle to get results against the top sides, and according to the Premiership table at least, there is currently none better than the Tigers.

Saints’ discipline hasn’t been great, either, and in what is always a feisty fixture, this could be a telling factor. Even if it is just penalties not cards they are giving away, that presents a problem because Leicester’s lineout is imperious and any kicks to the corner are likely to lead to points.

It is no coincidence that Julian Montoya is 8/11 favourite to be an anytime try-scorer. Nemani Nadolo is not far behind him, at 11/10, the Fijian having bagged doubles in his last two outings against Saints. Nadolo is 10/1 with Paddy Power to score one or more tries in each half.

Tigers have only been behind at half-time in five of their 19 matches this season, so backing them at -4 on the half-time handicap make sense.

Recommended bet: Leicester to win (1/3, Skybet)

Leicester: 15 Bryce Hegarty, 14 Harry Potter, 13 Guy Porter, 12 Dan Kelly, 11 Nemani Nadolo, 10 Freddie Burns, 9 Richard Wigglesworth (vc), 1 James Whitcombe, 2 Julián Montoya, 3 Dan Cole, 4 Harry Wells, 5 Calum Green, 6 Hanro Liebenberg (c), 7 Tommy Reffell, 8 Jasper Wiese

Replacements: 16 Charlie Clare, 17 Francois van Wyk, 18 Nephi Leatigaga, 19 Eli Snyman, 20 George Martin, 21 Jack van Poortvliet, 22 Matt Scott, 23 Chris Ashton

Northampton: 15 Ahsee Tuala, 14 Ollie Sleightholme, 13 Fraser Dingwall (c), 12 Rory Hutchinson, 11 Courtnall Skosan, 10 George Furbank, 9 Alex Mitchell, 1 Alex Waller, 2 Sam Matavesi, 3 Paul Hill, 4 David Ribbans, 5 Api Ratuniyarawa, 6 Tom Wood, 7 Teimana Harrison, 8 Juarno Augustus

Replacements: 16 Mike Haywood, 17 Emmanuel Iyogun, 18 Conor Carey, 19 Alex Coles, 20 Karl Wilkins, 21 Tom James, 22 James Grayson, 23 Matt Proctor: 16 Charlie Clare, 17 Francois van Wyk, 18 Nephi Leatigaga, 19 Eli Snyman, 20 George Martin, 21 Jack van Poortvliet, 22 Matt Scott,23 Chris Ashton

PREDICTION – GLOS BY 6

GLOUCESTER RUGBY

Gloucester are unbeaten in their last half-a-dozen away games and are the Premiership’s most in-form side.

George Skivington’s side have picked up 24 points from their last six matches and go down to Sandy Park full of confidence.

Exeter will still be reeling from last week’s heartbreaking loss against Wasps and will be determined to get the win knowing that their play-off hopes are fast fading.

However, Gloucester have more of their key men available, have the resources to cancel Exeter’s strengths, and are good enough to defy the bookies who, surprisingly, still have the Chiefs as slight favourites,

Exeter Chiefs: 15 Josh Hodge, 14 Olly Woodburn, 13 Ian Whitten, 12 Tom Hendrickson, 11 Tom O’Flaherty, 10 Joe Simmonds (capt), 9 Sam Maunder; 1 Alec Hepburn, 2 Jack Innard, 3 Patrick Schickerling, 4 Jannes Kirsten, 5 Dafydd Jenkins, 6 Don Armand, 7 Richard Capstick, 8 Santiago Grondona

Replacements: 16 Jack Yeandle, 17 Billy Keast, 18 Marcus Street, 19 Dave Ewers, 20 Ollie Leatherbarrow, 21 Sam Hidalgo-Clyne, 22 Harvey Skinner, 23 Facundo Cordero
