PREDICTION – WASPS BY 10

WASPS

Bristol have quality in most areas but you can’t disguise the fact that they’re down to their fourth/fifth-choice half-backs as well as an untried centre combination.

Lee Blackett’s Wasps appear to be following the same template as the Wasps of old in coming on strong in the business part of the season and while Bristol are stuck scratching their heads wondering why last season’s success is fast becoming a distant memory, they are really kicking on.

That should come as no surprise now that they can call upon quality players like Joe Launchbury, Paolo Odogwu, Ryan Mills and the Willis brothers, Tom and Jack.

Takeaway last season’s defeat and Wasps have a very good record at Ashton Gate. Prior to that game, Wasps had won on all three previous occasions they had visited the stadium and we tip them to do so again.

Bristol Bears: 15. Henry Purdy; 14. Niyi Adeolokun, 13. Semi Radradra, 12. Antoine Frisch, 11. Alapati Leiua; 10. Tiff Eden, 9. Theo Strang; 1. Jake Woolmore, 2. Harry Thacker, 3. Max Lahiff, 4. Dave Attwood, 5. Joe Joyce, 6. Chris Vui, 7. Jake Heenan, 8. Steven Luatua (c).

PREDICTION – QUINS BY 8

HARLEQUINS

Steve Diamond will be acutely aware that one win doesn’t make a season and will be desperate for his Warriors to kick on from last weekend’s 19-14 victory against Bristol.

Quins have shown they are very beatable during this Six Nations period but when they can still select the likes of Wilco Louw and Louis Lynagh on the bench, they must be confident of backing up last week’s win over Wasps, and by more than the five points on the handicap.

Worcester Warriors: 15 Noah Heward, 14 Perry Humphreys, 13 Oli Morris, 12 Seb Atkinson, 11 Alex Hearle, 10 Fin Smith, 9 Gareth Simpson, 1 Murray McCallum, 2 Niall Annett, 3 Christian Judge, 4 Matt Garvey, 5 Graham Kitchener, 6 Joe Batley, 7 Ted Hill (C), 8 Sione Vailanu.

Replacements: 16 Isaac Miller, 17 Ethan Waller, 18 Jay Tyack, 19 Andrew Kitchener, 20 Justin Clegg, 21 Will Chudley, 22 Billy Searle, 23 Tom Howe.

Harlequins: 15. Tyrone Green, 14. Oscar Beard, 13. Huw Jones, 12. Andre Esterhuizen, 11. Cadan Murley, 10. Will Edwards, 9. Danny Care; 1. Simon Kerrod, 2. Jack Walker, 3. Will Collier, 4. Matt Symons, 5. Hugh Tizard, 6. Stephan Lewies (c), 7. Tom Lawday, 8. Archie White

Replacements: 16. Sam Riley, 17. Jordan Els, 18. Wilco Louw, 19. George Hammond, 20. Matas Jurevicius, 21. Lewis Gjaltema, 22. Tommy Allan, 23. Louis Lynagh

PREDICTION – GLOS BY 2

gloucester-rugby-logo

GLOUCESTER RUGBY

A tough one to call as both sides have excellent driving mauls and could cancel each other out. Gloucester (14) and Leicester (13) are the only sides in this season’s Premiership to have scored 10+ tries directly from mauls, while they rank first and second respectively for metres gained from mauls (Gloucester 503, Leicester 380).

Gloucester return to action from a bye week and that’s normally good news – the team with most rest wins two-thirds of the matches in their first fixture back.

However, Leicester have won both  their games against a team returning from a bye week (Saracens and Northampton) and will look to add a third in Gloucester.

Gloucester are without a win in their last fifteen visits to Welford Road in all competitions since their 30-17 victory there in Premiership Rugby in October 2007. But boosted by players released from international duty and Tigers not playing that well of late this could be their chance to end the run.

PREDICTION – FALCONS BY 6

BATH RUGBY

Newcastle Falcons are winless in their last seven Premiership matches (D1 L6), their longest run without a victory since a seven-game sequence between October-December 2015, which was halted by a win at home to Bath  in January 2016 (19-14).

But the visit of a Bath side that has no front-five to speak of provides them with a golden chance to end that barren run, in what has all the makings of being a very low-scoring match.
