PREDICTION – SARRIES BY 4

saracens-logo

SARACENS

Home defeats are rare for Sale – the loss to Exeter in October was the last time they were taken down on their own patch in the last year – but Saracens are more than capable of overcoming the 1-point handicap handed to them.

It was only when they adopted  mauling tactics that Sale turned last week’s game against bottom-of-the-table Bath around, and the way they fail to put together full 80-minute performances is still a concern.

Sarries have to contend without Owen Farrell who is still going through his return-to-play protocol but Alex Goode is a very good deputy at No.10.

AJ MacGinty’s continued absence for Sale will probably be more keenly felt, especially in the goal-kicking stakes.

In what should be a tight, forward-dominated game, kicking your points when they are available is a must, and Sale failed to do that in the draw at Bath, which is another factor why Sarries should get the job done.

Sale Sharks: 15. Luke James; 14. Tom Roebuck, 13. Sam James, 12. Rohan Janse van Rensburg, 11. Arron Reed; 10. Robert du Preez, 9. Faf de Klerk; 1. Bevan Rodd, 2. Ewan Ashman, 3. Coenie Oosthuizen, 4. Cobus Wiese, 5. Lood de Jager, 6. Jono Ross, 7. Ben Curry, 8. Daniel du Preez

BATH RUGBY

Having Will Stuart, Charlie Ewels and Joe Cokanasiga back in the starting XV is obviously a massive boost to Bath, particularly as they’ll help combat the physicality that Exeter will bring to the game.

In his fleeting cameo against Sale last week, Cokanasiga looked very dangerous the few times he got the ball and the England winger will be chomping at the bit for more involvement this weekend.

For Exeter, England duo Henry Slade and Sam Simmonds both miss the game due to their mandatory rest break, whilst fellow internationals Luke Cowan-Dickie (knee) and Jack Nowell (arm) remain sidelined with injury.

All things considered, Bath look like a decent bet getting a 14-point start on the handicap against a team that is battling hard to remain in the play-off picture.

Exeter: 15 Stuart Hogg, 14 Olly Woodburn, 13 Ian Whitten, 12 Tom Hendrickson, 11 Tom O’Flaherty, 10 Joe Simmonds, 9 Sam Maunder, 1 Alec Hepburn, 2 Jack Yeandle (capt), 3 Patrick Schickerling, 4 Jannes Kirsten, 5 Jonny Gray, 6 Dave Ewers, 7 Sam Skinner, 8 Jacques Vermeulen

Replacements: 16 Jack Innard, 17 Billy Keast, 18 Marcus Street, 19 Richard Capstick, 20 Santiago Grondona, 21 Jack Maunder, 22 Harvey Skinner, 23 Josh Hodge

Bath: 15 Tom de Glanville, 14 Semesa Rokoduguni, 13 Jonathan Joseph, 12 Max Clark, 11 Joe Cokanasiga, 10 Orlando Bailey, 9 Ben Spencer; 1 Valeriy Morozov, 2 Jacques du Toit, 3 Will Stuart, 4 Will Spencer, 5 Charlie Ewels ©, 6 Josh Bayliss, 7 Sam Underhill, 8 Nathan Hughes

Replacements: 16 Tom Dunn, 17 Arthur Cordwell, 18 D’Arcy Rae, 19 Mike Williams, 20 Ewan Richards, 21 Joe Simpson, 22 Danny Cipriani, 23 Will Muir

PREDICTION – GLOS BY 6

WASPS

Both clubs field two strong-looking XVs so home advantage could be the deciding factor here.

Gloucester haven’t played at Kingsholm in a month and will be desperate to give their supporters something to shout about.

Also, the Cherry & Whites have a good record against Wasps, losing just one of their last eight meetings, and the evens offered by Boyle Sports on Gloucester half-time/full-time looks good value. George Skivington’side have only been trailing at half-time on one occasion at home this term (versus Leicester Tigers in round two).

Gloucester: 15. Kyle Moyle, 14. Santiago Carreras, 13. Chris Harris, 12. Mark Atkinson, 11. Louis Rees-Zammit, 10. Adam Hastings, 9. Ben Meehan, 1. Val Rapava-Ruskin, 2. Jack Singleton, 3. Fraser Balmain, 4. Freddie Clarke, 5. Matias Alemanno, 6. Jordy Reid, 7. Lewis Ludlow (c), 8. Ruan Ackermann

Replacements: 16. Santiago Socino, 17. Harry Elrington, 18. Kirill Gotovtsev, 19. Andrew Davidson, 20. Ben Morgan, 21. Charlie Chapman, 22. Billy Twelvetrees, 23. Tom Seabrook

Wasps: 15 Jacob Umaga, 14 Paolo Odogwu, 13 Malakai Fekitoa, 12 Jimmy Gopperth, 11 Josh Bassett, 10 Charlie Atkinson, 9 Will Porter; 1 Tom West, 2 Gabriel Oghre, 3 Biyi Alo, 4 Joe Launchbury(c), 5 Elliott Stooke, 6 Brad Shields, 7 Jack Willis, 8 Alfie Barbeary

PREDICTION – SAINTS BY 9

BRISTOL BEARS

Buoyed by a big win down at London Irish, Saints should be full of confidence going into a match that means more to them than Bristol, whose chances of making the play-offs are long gone.

Bristol will be more focused on their Round of 16 Heineken Champions Cup tie against Sale next week, that’s if they’re not distracted by the salary cap story that broke this week.

For whatever reason, Bristol’s two world-class players, Charles Piutau and Semi Radradra have failed to make anything like the same impact as in previous seasons, scoring just one league try between them in 22 appearances.

Registering back-to-back wins has been a challenge for inconsistent Saints but we’re backing them here to find some momentum against a Bears side that hasn’t travelled well

Northampton: 15 George Furbank; 14 Tommy Freeman, 13 Fraser Dingwall, 12 Rory Hutchinson, 11 Tom Collins; 10 Dan Biggar, 9 Alex Mitchell; 1 Alex Waller, 2 Sam Matavesi, 3 Paul Hill, 4 David Ribbans, 5 Api Ratuniyarawa, 6 Courtney Lawes, 7 Lewis Ludlam (c), 8 Juarno Augustus

Replacements: 16 Mike Haywood, 17 Nick Auterac, 18 Conor Carey, 19 Alex Moon, 20 Alex Coles, 21 Tom James, 22 Matt Proctor, 23 George Hendy

Bristol: 15. Charles Piutau; 14. Siva Naulago, 13. Semi Radradra, 12. Antoine Frisch, 11. Alapati Leiua, 10. Callum Sheedy, 9. Andy Uren; 1. Yann Thomas, 2. Harry Thacker, 3. John Afoa, 4. Dave Attwood, 5. Joe Joyce (c), 6. Chris Vui, 7. Jake Heenan, 8. Fitz Harding.

Replacements: 16. Jake Kerr, 17. Jake Woolmore, 18. Jake Armstrong, 19. Sam Jeffries, 20. Harry Randall, 21. Tiff Eden, 22. Piers O’Conor, 23. Luke Morahan

PREDICTION – WORC BY 12

Newcastle_Falcons_logo

NEWCASTLE FALCONS

In any other season, this would have all the makings of being a tight, tense relegation battle. But without the fear of the drop hanging over them, there is no excuse for both teams not giving it a go.

Worcester are better suited to that style of game than Newcastle and we believe they could win well.

Warriors: 15 Noah Heward, 14 Alex Hearle, 13 Oli Morris, 12 Ashley Beck, 11 Duhan van der Merwe, 10 Fin Smith, 9 Gareth Simpson, 1 Rory Sutherland, 2 Niall Annett, 3 Christian Judge, 4 Joe Batley, 5 Graham Kitchener, 6 Kyle Hatherell, 7 Ted Hill (C), 8 Sione Vailanu.

Replacements | 16 Isaac Miller, 17 Ethan Waller, 18 Murray McCallum, 19 Justin Clegg, 20 Jack Forsythe, 21 Will Chudley, 22 Billy Searle, 23 Perry Humphreys.

Newcastle: 15 Tom Penny, 14 Adam Radwan, 13 George Wacokecoke, 12 Luther Burrell, 11 Mateo Carreras, 10 Brett Connon, 9 Louis Schreuder; 1 Adam Brocklebank, 2 George McGuigan, 3 Trevor Davison, 4 Greg Peterson, 5 Sean Robinson, 6 Josh Basham, 7 Will Welch (captain), 8 Freddie Lockwood.

Replacements: 16 Jamie Blamire, 17 Kyle Cooper, 18 Mark Tampin, 19 Marco Fuser, 20 Rob Farrar, 21 Cameron Nordli-Kelemeti, 22 Will Haydon-Wood, 23 Ben Stevenson.

PREDICTION – QUINS BY 8

harlequins-logo

HARLEQUINS

Quins can play touch-and-pass rugby as well as anyone so they’re perhaps not the best team for Irish to be playing right now after shipping 40 points at home to Northampton, a side very similar to today’s visitors.

Irish were cruelly exposed defensively against Saints, and Quins have the attacking arsenal to make them pay again in what should be a high-scoring and fast encounter.

The average number of tries scored in games involving Irish is seven and that should be at least maintained in Brentford today.

London Irish: 15 Tom Parton, 14 Lucio Cinti, 13 Curtis Rona, 12 Benhard van Rensburg, 11 Ollie Hassell-Collins, 10 Paddy Jackson, 9 Nick Phipps, 1 Will Goodrick-Clarke, 2 Agustin Creevy, 3 Ollie Hoskins, 4 Matt Rogerson (c), 5 Adam Coleman, 6 Tom Pearson, 7 Juan Martin Gonzalez, 8 Albert Tuisue.

Replacements: 16 Matt Cornish, 17 Facundo Gigena, 18 Marcel van der Merwe, 19 Rob Simmons, 20 George Nott, 21 Ben White, 22 Will Joseph, 23 Henry Arundell.

Harlequins: 15. Huw Jones, 14. Cadan Murley, 13. Joe Marchant, 12. Andre Esterhuizen, 11. Luke Northmore, 10. Marcus Smith, 9. Danny Care, 1. Joe Marler, 2. Jack Walker, 3. Will Collier, 4. Matt Symons, 5. Hugh Tizard, 6. George Hammond, 7. Tom Lawday, 8. Alex Dombrandt (Captain)

Replacements: 16. Jack Musk, 17. Simon Kerrod, 18. Wilco Louw, 19. Matas Jurevicius, 20. Luke Wallace, 21. Lewis Gjaltema, 22. Will Edwards, 23. Louis Lynagh
