PREDICTION – GLOS BY 4

EXETER CHIEFS

After wins over Newcastle and Worcester, Gloucester are playing with much more confidence and resolve.

The Cherry & Whites admit they have been a flaky side in recent years but a win against the Chiefs would definitely send out the right message, and we feel they have it in them to do so on a weekend when they haven’t been hit as hard by international call-ups.

The Chiefs appear to be losing their cloak of invincibility and have been beaten in nine games in the Premiership in 2021, the most for them in a calendar year since 2016.

Recommended bet: Gloucester +3 (hopefully you got on +5 earlier in the week).

Gloucester: 15 Jason Woodward, 14 Louis Rees-Zammit, 13 Chris Harris, 12 Billy Twelvetrees, 11 Santiago Carreras, 10 Adam Hastings, 9 Ben Meehan, 1 Val Rapava-Ruskin, 2 Jack Singleton, 3 Fraser Balmain, 4 Freddie Clarke, 5 Andrew Davidson, 6 Ruan Ackermann, 7 Lewis Ludlow (c), 8 Ben Morgan

Replacements: 16 Santiago Socino, 17 Harry Elrington, 18 Kirill Gotovtsev, 19 Freddie Thomas, 20 Jack Clement, 21 Charlie Chapman, 22 Lloyd Evans, 23 Kyle Moyle

Exeter: 15 Stuart Hogg, 14 Jack Nowell, 13 Tom Hendrickson, 12 Ollie Devoto, 11 Facundo Cordero, 10 Harvey Skinner, 9 Jack Maunder; 1 Alec Hepburn, 2 Jack Yeandle (C), 3 Harry Williams, 4 Will Witty, 5 Sean Lonsdale, 6 Sam Skinner, 7 Don Armand, 8 Richard Capstick

Replacements: 16 Ollie Burrows, 17 Ben Moon, 18 Josh Isoefa-Scott, 19 Christ Tshiunza, 20 Rus Tuima, 21 Sam Hidalgo-Clyne, 22 Joe Simmonds, 23 Ian Whitten

PREDICTION – WASPS 7

wasps-logo

WASPS

Two sides ravaged by injuries, suspension and international call-ups come together at The Rec.

That said, both still field decent-looking teams although Wasps do appear to have a little bit more quality in key areas in their starting XV.

Having effectively thrown the game at Sarries last week, Wasps will have targeted a win in this one and Bath could still find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table come Saturday tea-time.

Wasps only defeat in their last six visits to the Rec in Premiership Rugby was 17-29 in May 2019, and they are a best-priced 8/15 (Unibet) to keep the run going.

Bath: 15 Tom de Glanville, 14 Semesa Rokoduguni, 13 Max Clark, 12 Max Ojomoh, 11 Will Muir, 10 Orlando Bailey, 9 Ollie Fox; 1 Lewis Boyce, 2 Jacques du Toit, 3 D’Arcy Rae, 4 Josh McNally ©, 5 Mike Williams, 6 Richard de Carpentier, 7 Miles Reid, 8 Josh Bayliss

Replacements: 16 Tom Dunn, 17 Juan Schoeman, 18 Johannes Jonker, 19 Ewan Richards, 20 Nahum Mergian, 21 Max Green, 22 Danny Cipriani, 23 Jonathan Joseph

Wasps: 15 Marcus Watson; 14 Zach Kibirige, 13 Michael Le Bourgeois, 12 Jimmy Gopperth, 11 Josh Bassett; 10 Jacob Umaga, 9 Dan Robson; 1 Robin Hislop, 2 Gabriel Oghre, 3 Jeff Toomaga-Allen, 4 Vaea Fifita, 5 Elliott Stooke, 6 Brad Shields, 7 Thomas Young, 8 Tom Willis.

Replacements: 16 Michael van Vuuren, 17 Zac Nearchou, 18 Elliot Millar-Mills, 19 Tim Cardall, 20 Nizaam Carr, 21 Will Porter, 22 Alex McHenry, 23 Ali Crossdale.

PREDICTION – BEARS BY 3

bristol-bears-logo

BRISTOL BEARS

Irish to be odds-on favourites would have been unthinkable a few weeks ago but their marvellous win at Exeter coupled with the Bears’ poor start to the season, marks them down as favourites.

However, the Bears do have some notable players back, particularly in the backline as they look to finally ignite in attack. Luke Morahan is set to make his first outing of the 2021/22 campaign and there are returns for Charles Piutau, Piers O’Conor and Andy Uren, and their presence should help Pat Lam’s side score more freely in a game where defences may struggle.

Given their second-half struggles though, it might be worth backing Irish to score most points after the break.

Recommended bet: Irish to win the second half, 10/11 (Paddy Power)

London Irish: 15 Tom Parton, 14 James Stokes, 13 Curtis Rona, 12 Benhard van Rensburg, 11 Ollie Hassell-Collins, 10 Paddy Jackson, 9 Nick Phipps, 1 Will Goodrick-Clarke, 2 Mike Willemse, 3 Ollie Hoskins, 4 Steve Mafi, 5 Rob Simmons, 6 Matt Rogerson (c), 7 Isaac Curtis-Harris, 8 Albert Tuisue.

Replacements: 16 Agustin Creevy, 17 Allan Dell, 18 Marcel van der Merwe, 19 George Nott, 20 Jack Cooke, 21 Ben White, 22 Terrence Hepetema, 23 Kyle Rowe.

Bristol: 15. Charles Piutau; 14. Luke Morahan, 13. Jack Bates, 12. Piers O’Conor, 11. Toby Fricker, 10. Callum Sheedy, 9. Andy Uren; 1. Yann Thomas, 2. Jake Kerr, 3. John Afoa, 4. Dave Attwood (co-capt), 5. Joe Joyce, 6. Sam Jeffries, 7. Jake Heenan (co-capt), 8. Fitz Harding.

Replacements: 16. Harry Thacker, 17. Max Lahiff, 18. Jake Armstrong, 19. John Hawkins, 20. Dan Thomas, 21. Tom Whiteley, 22. Ioan Lloyd, 23. Alapati Leiua.

PREDICTION – SHARKS BY 8

sale-sharks-logo

SALE SHARKS

Ollie Lawrence, Ted Hill and Matt Garvey are back to boost Warriors who badly need the quality and leadership they will bring after recent hammerings.

Sale traditionally fall short when they’ve got a big handicap to overcome and we think the Warriors will keep the margin of defeat down to single figures on this occasion.

Worcester: 15 Jamie Shillcock, 14 Noah Heward, 13 Ollie Lawrence, 12 Francois Venter, 11 Duhan van der Merwe, 10 Fin Smith, 9 Will Chudley; 1 Rory Sutherland, 2 Scott Baldwin, 3 Christian Judge, 4 Matt Garvey, 5 Graham Kitchener, 6 Kyle Hatherell, 7 Ted Hill (C), 8 Sione Vailanu.

Replacements: 16 Niall Annett, 17 Ethan Waller, 18 Jay Tyack, 19 Andrew Kitchener, 20 Sam Lewis, 21 Gareth Simpson, 22 Billy Searle, 23 Ashley Beck.

Sale: 15 Luke James, 14 Denny Solomona, 13 Sam James, 12 Rohan Janse van Rensburg, 11 Marland Yarde, 10 Robert du Preez, 9 Gus Warr; 1 Bevan Rodd 2, Tommy Taylor, 3 Coenie Oosthuizen, 4 Jean-Pierre du Preez, 5 Lood de Jager (C), 6 Cobus Wiese, 7 Ben Curry, 8 Daniel du Preez
