Autumn Nations Series: Scotland v Australia betting preview

With rain forecast for Edinburgh and a history of low-scoring matches between the teams in recent times, it’s no surprise that the Total Points line has been set at just above 40. For us, there’s too little margin for error to be persuaded to dip into that market.

Instead, we’re going to focus on Australia’s terrible form away from home – the Wallabies have won just 2 of 11 away Tests since the 2019 World Cup (W2 D1 L8). And on the last three trips to Murrayfield, they have come away beaten.

Scotland have never won four on the bounce against the men in green and gold, but this is a golden opportunity for them, in spite of having their England-based players missing.

Australia have the misfortune of playing New Zealand and South Africa on a regular basis and that has to be taken into consideration when looking at the world rankings which have Scotland three places higher than the tourists.

In truth, there is hardly any difference between the two, but home advantage and a team selection that is full of positive intent should just about tip it Scotland’s way.

The margin of victory in games between these two has been six points or fewer in seven of the last eight meetings since 2006, so we’re going to go for Scotland to win by 1-5 points (11/2, Betfred)
