  • Outright winner – Ireland (31/10, SBK)
  • No Grand Slam (5/6 Boyle Sports)
  • Damian Penaud top try-scorer (10/1 Skybet) & Ronan Kelleher (28/1, Skybet)
  • Dan Biggar top points-scorer (7/2, Paddy Power)
  • Scotland top try-scoring team (12/1, Paddy Power)

With a clean sweep of wins achieved over the southern hemisphere nations on a single weekend for the first time since 2002, it stands to reason that this Six Nations could be the most competitive yet.

Strong arguments can be put forward for the claims of perennial bridesmaids France, as well as England and Ireland, and also for Scotland and defending champions Wales … at a stretch. As for Italy, like taxes and death, nothing is more certain in life than a wooden spoon.

For us, Ireland represent the value bet to win the title, even at reduced odds of 3/1 (they were 4/1 a week or so ago).

Penaud is the way to go

The top try-scorer market is always a fun one to indulge in, and after the entertainment on offer last year, let’s hope there’s plenty shared around in 2022.

Damian Penaud is our 10/1 pick this time around. It is amazing to think given Les Bleus’ reputation for flinging the ball around that only one French back, again by the name of Damian, has topped the charts before (Damien Traille in 2003).

Biggar is better

Wales will need their new captain, Dan Biggar, to lead from the front and keep the scoreboard ticking over if they are to mount any sort of title defence.

The Northampton Saints man looks well-placed to follow in the footsteps of fellow Welshmen, Leigh Halfpenny and Stephen Jones, and finish the Championship as top points-scorer.
